Dear MHVG members,
The onset of Coronavirus has scuppered the printing and mailing of the Spring Magazine, so I am taking the liberty of sending it by email in a (hopefully) easy to open format that does not require access via the club website.
I am aware that a number of us have come into the electronic world of communication out of necessity rather than desire, and hope you will not take this measure as an insult to your prowess on the keyboard! The magazine is admirably presented on the MHVG.co.uk website but does require a few deft strokes prior to making an appearance. This is in order to protect the club from the data protection hawks.
Whilst I have your attention, in my capacity of Social Co-ordinator, I would like to mention a few pointers in the magazine. You will find mention of the cancellation, sadly, of the Montreuil trip amongst others, and the need for us all to try to keep in touch because we will all be “in the same boat” trying to keep sane for quite some time yet. To that end, I mention the forum on the website that is currently rather thin (memo to self to buck up on that item). But really all it needs to keep in touch is a short message, email or a phone call to your fellow enthusiasts. If anyone who wants to contact another member and has not got their details just give me a call. It really is not a problem.
It remains to be seen how long before it will be “acceptable” to be out and about in our cherished cars again. We will certainly be looking forward to that day and will continue to keep in touch.
And finally, if you are really at a lose end, try finding the crossword in the Winter Magazine if you have not done it and have a crack at it BEFORE opening the answers in this Spring edition. That uses up a few hours I guarantee!
Do stay safe please. Many of us are lucky to live in rural areas that are relatively unaffected. We need to spare a thought for those less fortunate.

Notes: A poem by a sentimental Bev is below. OED definition of CALLOW is “young or inexperienced”! (in case you, like me, didn’t know)
MHVG JOYS…….Looking back.
Twenty years since first we joined
callow in our Roadster green, to find
a host of such new friends, made at first
by wit and fun, but later, deeper, with common,
and some less common interests, known and shared,
our joy in such a congregation.
That we are a disparate band is true,
our cars like us from another time, another idea,
less efficient yes, but oh, the smell of oil and part burned petrol,
of interior leather on a summer’s day……
These are the things which brought us together, but,,,what binds us
is the melding of our friendly souls. B.S. 2020
